JayLim reveals his first signature style, Miss Hua – the fictional character of a young woman based on the Shanghai 50’s era. On 19th and 20th September 2008, JayLim will travel up north to Penang’s Han Chiang College for his second solo exhibition entitled A Journey to Nanyang – Dance with the Flowers. The upcoming exhibition is part of a cross-cultural project with a group of other talented artists from Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan. The designers are Nakanari, Josef Lee, Muid Latif, Urban-Cr3atures and Fusionwave.
The land of Malaysia has always been the perfect place to learn and practice the traditions, the customs and the languages. Even the cultural heritage that we see still standing along Petaling Street and Jalan Mesui, for example, is an integral link between the past and the future that continuously shape our perspective and understanding of the present world. JayLim’s latest creation truly echoes one important mission – to preserve one’s culture whether it be in the form of speaking the dialect, practicing the protocols, taking care of the buildings or appreciating art.
“There is a huge following in western culture and modern living, and this situation will have an effect on the identity of a country, or a person,” said JayLim. He believes that it is through design that he can pass the message on to the general audience.
At the exhibition we will share the stories of the designers and their experiences in the ever-demanding creative industry through keynote speakers Mr. Lim Chun-Woei from Han Chiang College, Muid Latif (creative director and founder of DMP), Luk Chee Chew from Fusionwave and JayLim himself. The exhibition will also see the differences in styles and perspectives through poster presentations.

The world’s biggest live music competition returns to Malaysia in 2008!
Last year, one Malaysian band emerged as national champions to battle it out with bands from over 30 countries and conquer the world stage in London for the coveted US$100,000 cash prize, a world tour and a crack at international stardom.
GBOB Malaysia first brought the competition to the Malaysian landscape in 2007 to give raw or established Malaysian musical talents the opportunity to springboard into the international music scene. The GBOB Challenge Malaysia provides an opportune occasion for local band hopefuls to rise to the ranks of other world-class musical talents and receive global recognition for Malaysia’s emergence in the international music industry.
RADIOACTIVE sponsored homegrown punk rock band Y2K did the country proud at last year’s World Finals of The Global Battle of the Bands (The GBOB Challenge 2007) held at Camden town, the hub of London’s alternative scene.
The three-man group - made up of Khairil Mokhzani Bin Bahar aka Monsieur Poubelle on bass/vocals, Paul Naquiddin Bin Mohd aka The Naq on drums and Saiful Azlan Bin Freezailah aka Hermano Grande on guitar/vocals - was among only 15 bands out of 24 from all over the world to have advanced to the World Superfinals in this three-day global music festival.

In this season of Radioactive, the Old Master Q is reunited with his fellow friends in the 'The Old Master Q 45th Anniversary' Exhibition. Malaysia's new rising designer – Michael Chuah – serves up some cuteness and playfulness in 'Q Generation', setting Master Q apart from the conventional black-and-white style.
With Michael's artistic strokes and choice of colours, the famous comic character surely gets a whole new look this time and double the attraction! Michael's new version of Master Q results in a fine combination that's modern yet typical of the 70's era. Very rich in colour, the 'Q Generation' tees are detailed in every manner from cutting to print, making it an unforgettable affair for the style-conscious.
This collection is the brainchild of Radioactive creative team using technical prints as the inspiration. RDCTV is experienced in such iconic design projects. This latest collection is their sixth project in these five years. |
